a whole new way to fight

marlee and cooper can fight over just about anything these days. thanks to nana and papa (with mom's approval) they can now fight over who is a better air hockey player or who is the ping pong champ! yay! winter is going to be such fun!!! lol

Pitiful

Hardly 20 minutes after opening Santa's gifts Cooper got sick. He spent the whole day hopping from couch to couch to our bed. In between he would get sick. I guess he picked up a nasty little 24 hour bug. He didn't get to enjoy his Christmas presents at all. I felt so sorry for him. He was wasn't his usually active self. He's still not 100%. He has hardly eaten anything all week. He needs all the extra weight he can get.

Santa's Arrival

Marlee and Cooper were so excited about Santa. We tracked his movements on NORAD. Once he hit the USA, I was able to get the kids to close their eyes. I slept upstairs so Marlee wouldn't come down at 2 in the morning and want to open presents. I think we made it to 7:30.

Christmas 2011

We had a great Christmas. The kids were beyond excited this year. We traveled home a few days before Christmas and came back Christmas Eve. That way we don't have to rush the kids off after they open their Santa presents.

30 Something

I remember back in the late 80's/early 90's the tv show 30 Something. When I watched it I though 30 was so far away and looked weird, stressful, and busy. Now that I am officially 30 something, I really identify with those descriptions. 2011 will most likely go down as the fastest year on record for me. I don't ever remember a year moving as quickly. Being 30 brought about a lot of changes, for the better, too. We sold our house in GA. I got a teaching job. I finally got my stomach issues resolved. Marlee and Cooper started a new preschool. One word: busy.

The stress comes from my continual struggle to find balance. Going back to the classroom brought about a new set of challenges. Would I still be a good mother while focusing on being a good teacher? Would I be able to give enough to my students when I spend so much time focusing on my own kids? I would give myself a B+ for this first semester. I definitely have room for improvements. The one positive is that I haven't questioned my return to the classroom. Don't get me wrong, I loved being a stay at home mom. But I felt Marlee, especially, had outgrown me. She needs more challenge and interaction. There were several days I thought I was losing my identity. I wasn't sure who Kelly was anymore. Just a 30 year old stay at home mom. Now I am a working mom and appreciate my time with Marlee and Cooper a little more.

As for the weird part, I am the youngest of all of my first cousins. When I was in HS, they were all in their 30s with careers, husbands, kids, etc. I remember idolizing them in my imagination and dreaming of one day being in their shoes. How weird to dream about such things when you're only 13/14 years old? I've always been a dreamer and one to want to rush time along. Now their kids are in my shoes and I am the adult. I just wonder if my life looks weird to them?

Happy Birthday to me! I hope 31 is great!

I'm Going Out for a While...

With four of my most favorite people. We've been friends since forever. Some friendships date back 20 years. As we have aged and started families, our times together are few and far between.

Luckily we were all in town at the same time and were able to grab dinner and drinks. The last time we were all 5 together was over two years ago. It seemed like no time at all passed. Love these girls dearly. Can't wait until our next gathering in February and our 2nd annual beach trip in June!

Craft Time 2011

Just a few of the projects we've done the last few weeks. Marlee and Cooper love to paint and do any kind of art. (Oh and I enjoy art too, if you can't tell. )
